For example a pale blue shirt will go nicely with a yellow, navy or burgundy men’s tie. Similarly, a pale pink shirt will go nicely with a navy or burgundy tie. Likewise a tan shirt will go nicely with darker tones of colour such as browns.

4. Complimenting Patterned Shirts Is Not as Tricky as It First Seems

Having checkered or stripey shirts can be a great look. But at the same time, they are the men’s ties that are arguably the hardest to compliment with a tie. However once you know this little rule you’ll find matching them a breeze. The trick: take a step back and look at the shirt from a distance. From here you’ll be able to see the dominant colour and choose a tie that matches with that colour perfectly. Once you’ve done that you should choose a tie that has a corresponding pattern – no plain colour ties as a general rule. The pattern of your tie should stand out and provide a key point of difference from your shirt to make the combined look work great.

It is easy to think that because we walk all the time, any old sandals and socks will do; but this is not the case. Walking is the best exercise for your feet and for your whole body, because it can improve circulation and it makes you feel good. But not if your feet hurt at the end of the walk!

But remember, only a small number of people are born with foot problems. Most of the foot pain we experience comes from neglect and a lack of knowledge, about of proper foot care and especially from badly fitting shoes.

Well fitting comfortable shoes do not have to be ugly. There are some great sandals and shoes, designed for both walking and comfort, readily available today – when you know where and how to look.

Here is a list of tips for selecting comfortable shoes and sandals.

1. Always pick your shoe or sandal size for your bigger foot. That may mean width or length. (It is hard to believe, but most of us have one foot a tiny bit bigger than the other!)

2. If you are intending to go walking in your sandals, or spend the whole day standing in them, then look for sandals with cushioning in the soles. This will minimize the damage to your feet as you walk, especially on hard surfaces.

3. Shoes should be comfortable from day one, do not expect to stretch them, or plan for children to ‘grow’ into them.

4. You must be able to move your toes freely.

5. They should have a strong sole, which flexes at the ball of your foot.

6. Remember, our feet tend to spread and lengthen as we grow older, so sometimes our shoe size will change. Check the shoes are the correct size, by drawing around both feet on two separate pieces of paper, your new shoes placed on top of the outline should completely cover it.

7. Do not forget about socks. Socks should be made of a high percentage of natural fabric and they also should be the correct size for our feet.

8. Chose a sandal that comes in wide widths, and look out for real leather which will mold to your foot.

After a long walk, take care of you feet and sandals. Try to put the sandals where they can air properly, before you need then again. Take off the socks and put them in the wash.

Now it is your feet’s turn: wash them in warm water and dry them carefully, check for blisters or hard skin and deal with it. If possible, put your feet up for half an hour and relax after your walk.

Moisturize your feet and put on clean, preferably cotton, socks. Now is a good time to give your self a foot massage, perhaps while rubbing the moisturizer in.

As grandma always said, you look after your feet and they will look after you!

Combining your shirt and tie has always been a difficult dilemma for many men, especially if you don’t wear a shirt and tie very often or you have absolutely no idea about colour co-ordination.

Whether you intend to wear a shirt and tie for the office, a formal occasion or a night out, there are a few important principles to adhere to when it comes to shirts and ties. The first rule of combining shirt and ties is to keep things simple, if in doubt always wear a tie that is a shade darker than your shirt, avoid too many bright or loud colours and crazy patterns which can look far too messy or busy and will detract attention away from the rest of your outfit.

Wearing a tie that is the same colour but a darker shade than your shirt is easy for beginners, but it is also fine to experiment when you feel confident, patterned, checked or striped ties are great, but if you choose this option always ensure you wear a plain shirt, or if you wear a patterned shirt, choose a plain tie.

When choosing your attire, ensure that you keep things in proportion, keep tie widths in proportion with your collar lapels, wide lapels wear a wide tie, narrow lapels then wear a narrow or slim tie, also consider the type of knot you use when wearing a wider collar shirt, the Windsor knot is wider and a great space filler.

It is possible to mix colours using contrasting or complimenting colours without too much difficulty, but you may need to be more careful if you decide to mix patterns, generally try and stick to the rule of wearing a plain shirt and patterned tie and vies-versa, this way you will be fairly safe with your combinations. It is possible to mix patterns together, but this isn’t for the faint hearted, this could include a striped shirt with a chequered tie or a similar choice, the golden rule is to make sure that patterns are not too similar in size.

If you decide to opt for Identical Patterns Such as a striped shirt with stripe tie ensure the stripes are in the opposite direction, for example try a vertical striped shirt with a horizontal the striped tie, also ensure the width of the stripes are not similar, then all you need to think about is the colour coordinating
